Basic Information

  • Six weeks: Study the path, the way described in Psalms and Proverbs.
  • Art Project: Weaving a dark tapestry with a bright strand (If you would rather paint, draw, embroider… whatever, that’s fine. We will be leading weaving.) Purchase and bring your own supplies.

Week 1- DIVERGING WAYS, THE PATH OF LIFE

  1. Psalms 16- Psalms 16:11 You make known to me the path of life
  2. Psalms 25- Psalm 25:4 Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
  3. Psalms 1- Psalms 1:6 The Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
  4. Proverbs 2: 1-8- Proverbs 2:8 He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
  5. Proverbs 2: 9-22- Proverbs 2:12-13 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men… who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways…

Week 2- THE LIGHT MAKES EVERYTHING VISIBLE

  1. Genesis 16- Genesis 16:13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
  2. Ephesians 5:1-14- Ephesians 5:11-13a Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Everything exposed by the light becomes visible.
  3. Psalms 10- Psalms 10:1-2, 4 Why, Lord, do you stand far off?  Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
  4. Proverbs 4:1-12- Proverbs 4:11 I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
  5. Proverbs 4- Proverbs 4:18-19 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.

Week 3- TO LOVE EVIL RATHER THAN GOOD

  1. Psalms 52- Psalms 52:3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
  2. Psalms 26- Psalms 26:1 Vindicate me, Lord, for I have led a blameless life; I have trusted in the Lord and have not faltered.
  3. Psalms 3- Psalms 3:7-8a Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the Lord comes deliverance.
  4. Psalms 17- Psalms 17:13 Rise up, Lord, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
  5. Psalms 48- Psalms 48:9b We meditate on your unfailing love.

Week 4- GUIDE ME ON STRAIGHT PATHS

  1.  Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? 
  2. Proverbs 16:1-8 -Proverbs 16:2 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, 
        and he will establish your plans. 
  3. Proverbs 16:9-23-Proverbs 16:9 In their heart’s humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. 
  4. John 4:1-28 – John 4:29 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 
  5. John 3:11-21 – John 3:20-21 Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. 

Week 5- SEASONS OF THE SOUL

  1. Psalms 6- Psalms 6:6 All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
  2. Psalms 30- Psalms 30:5b weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
  3. Psalms 4-5- Psalms 4:4b when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.- Psalms 5:3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
  4. Psalms 42- Psalms 42:8 By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.
  5. Psalms 59- Psalms 59:16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

Week 6- THE LORD IS A HIDING PLACE ALONG THE PATH

  1. Psalm 84 – Psalm 84:5, 7 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 
  1. Proverbs 3:1-20 – Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight 
  2. Proverbs 3  – Proverbs 3:13,17 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 
  3. Psalm 18 – Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 
  4. Psalms 32 – Psalms 32:7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
